Prior to joining Redfish Counseling in 2022, Jenny worked for 15 years in a university counseling center with young adults. Before that, Jenny worked with adolescents in the foster care system and with clients working through trauma and abuse.

Jenny currently works with adult clients (age 18+) on issues ranging from life phase adjustment and transitions, to anxiety based disorders, trauma, grief and loss, and finding new ways of coping and moving forward from past challenges and difficulties. Jenny helps clients identify the ways they want to grow in their own life, find their strengths, and work to change patterns of behavior that are no longer working for them.

Jenny has served on the board of Outright Youth, an LGBTQIA+ organization that supports youth in the Hickory area, for five years; and on the board of the Hickory YMCA for three years. Additionally, she has presented at different conferences on the issues facing college-aged adults and the challenges going on in higher education around mental health.

Jenny also provides supervision to LCSWAs and LCMHCAs. With over 15 years of experience as a clinical supervisor to developing therapists across a wide range of clinical settings, Jenny strives to create a trusting relationship where supervisees feel safe to take risks, reflect deeply, and confidently embrace their own voice as clinicians. She enjoys working with new professionals in the mental health field and supporting them in their journey to becoming fully licensed.

From Jenny:

"As a clinical social worker, I am grateful

to have the opportunity to work with clients on the challenges they are facing in their lives,

and to be able to walk beside them on a journey where they are able to get to know themselves better, identify their strength and resilience, and begin to grow into the person they want to become.

I was drawn to this profession due to the desire to help others and make an impact. In my own personal journey, as a professional, but also as a human being with her own challenges, I have realized that asking for help and having someone to talk to that I know will always be in my corner, is invaluable.

Having a space where I can go and talk about what I need to talk about and being able to also provide that to my clients, is a precious gift.

I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness in the work I do with my clients, while also recognizing that being Client Centered and building a relationship with my client is essential for quality therapeutic work to be done. The value of Existentialism and finding meaning in challenge is also a technique I utilize regularly in my clinical work with clients.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is also something I regularly turn to, as it combines mindfulness and CBT principles while adding even more skills for clients to utilize.

When coming to sessions, clients will be welcomed and encouraged to talk about what they want to focus on. Goals we can accomplish in our work together may include finding acceptance to be your true self, grieve a loss in your life, facing past or present fears and worries, and many other things. In sessions with me, you will have a space to open up about the hard things, the good things, the scary things and anything else you have going on in your life. We will also seek out moments of humor where we can laugh and find the joy in your life, too.

My hope is to help you become the person you want to be and meet the goals that are important to you.

Outside of the office I am a wife and mother of a teenager, a cat person, an avid reader and music listener (I am open to all genres), and love to travel and experience new things.

I look forward to meeting you and working together!!
