Lexi is currently a graduate student on the Clinical Mental Health Counseling track at Wake Forest University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from James Madison University and is expanding on her education to obtain clinical licensure in North Carolina. Prior to her internship with Redfish, Lexi served children and adolescents ages 3-18 in a residential treatment setting. She has gained hands-on experience in helping young clients navigate a variety of challenges such as trauma, anxiety, impulsivity, mood disorders, and attachment concerns. Lexi has experience working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to implement care plans, ensure client safety, and create a compassionate environment to support clients in achieving their treatment goals. During her Practicum placement with Redfish in the spring of 2025, Lexi specialized in working with children ages 3+ and their families in addressing emotion regulation skills, peer relationships, improved communication skills, and reducing the effects of anxiety. Through her clinical work, Lexi has learned the critical importance of empowering caregivers, recognizing that their support is vital to the healing process of their loved ones. This insight informs her therapeutic approach, as she aims to collaborate with families to enhance their skills and understanding. Lexi's clinical work at Redfish Counseling as part of her internship is supervised by Jenny Smith, LCSW-S, and additional clinical staff.

From

Lexi

"My journey into the counseling profession was sparked by a passion for childhood development...

...and the inspiring young people I met through my service in residential treatment. Every human is incredibly valuable, each possessing a unique set of talents and strengths with which they can contribute to the world. While life can sometimes blur these from our vision, I have witnessed how counseling brings these strengths into our awareness and empowers individuals toward positive change.

I resonate with the counseling profession’s emphasis on establishing and maintaining a strong therapeutic alliance. During our session, we’ll create a supportive environment where your pain is acknowledged, your feelings are valued, and your healing takes precedence. These core values are informed by the humanistic, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches to counseling I subscribe to.

Through my clinical work, I have learned the critical importance of empowering caregivers, recognizing that their support is vital to the healing process of their loved ones.

I take full advantage of my time outside of the office and classroom, I’m usually surrounded by at least one animal and juggling many hobbies. I spend as much time as possible outside and have been enjoying the multitude of trails and climbing spots that Pilot Mountain has to offer. I certainly indulge in my fair share of creative outlets, but most commonly through writing. On game days, you’ll find me cheering on my alma mater!
